502 MYO — Myofunctional Therapy

What to expect

A clear, honest process.

From your first call to the day therapy wraps up, here's what to expect.

  1. Step 01

    Book

Reserve a 60-minute evaluation through our secure SimplePractice portal. You'll pay a deposit at booking and complete intake forms by email.

  2. Step 02

    Evaluate

A 60-minute, in-person evaluation of oral posture, swallow, tongue mobility, breathing, and related muscle function. We'll discuss findings at the end of the visit.

  3. Step 03

    Plan

You'll leave with a written plan: the specific exercises, frequency, and the result we're working toward. We'll be honest about what to expect and when.

  4. Step 04

    Train

Short, daily home practice plus in-person sessions every 2–4 weeks. Most programs run 4–9 months.

  5. Step 05

    Maintain

Once the pattern is established, we taper and check in. The work becomes a habit, not a chore.

A note on honesty

We'll be honest about what myofunctional therapy can and can't do. Outcomes vary. Some people make dramatic changes; others see smaller gains. Some conditions need medical or surgical care first; therapy alone isn't the right answer.

If we don't think therapy is the right next step, we'll tell you. We'll suggest the right provider and coordinate care with them.

Common questions

How long is the first visit?
60 minutes, in person. Plan to arrive a few minutes early to settle in.
Do I need to bring anything?
Your intake forms (sent by email after booking) and a list of any current symptoms or concerns. If you have imaging or relevant records, bring those too — but they are not required for the first visit.
Will I get a plan at the first visit?
Yes. After the assessment we will discuss findings and a written plan — exercises, frequency, and the result we are working toward. You will leave the first visit with clarity on next steps.
How often are follow-up sessions?
Most programs run weekly for the first 4–8 weeks, then every 2–4 weeks. A typical program runs 4–9 months total.
Does insurance cover myofunctional therapy?
502 MYO is a cash-pay practice. We do not bill insurance directly. We can provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement. HSA/FSA cards are accepted.
What if therapy is not the right next step?
We will tell you. If your situation requires medical, surgical, or other specialist care first, we will refer you to the right provider and coordinate care with them.
